Travel insurance for Cuba

Cuban government will require all visitors entering Cuba to purchase Cuban health insurance. The latest information from Cuba indicates that travellers coming to the island should take out travel medical insurance at the home country of departure. Upon demand after their arrival, travellers shall present an insurance policy, insurance certificate, or travel assistance card valid for travel medical insurance for the total duration of their stay in Cuba.

To meet the requirement, travellers should have travel insurance that covers medical expenses. Travel Medical Insurance as an inclusive benefit on select American Express Cards: This coverage is underwritten by RBC Insurance Company of Canada. 

Upon entering Cuba, you will be required to provide documented proof of coverage which includes your name, travel dates and confirmation of medical insurance coverage and travel assistance card. Without this documentation, you will be required to purchase similar coverage from Cuban government approved vendors upon or before entering Cuba.
